Metamoris 6: 'Babalu' will submit Chael Sonnen in less than 10 minutes

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight Renato Sobral submitted Chael Sonnen in less than 10 minutes when they went to war at the UFC 55 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which took place inside Mohegan Sun Arena way back in October of 2005.

Nearly 10 years later, "Babalu" expects history to repeat itself.

"Sonnen is from the same generation, and I think it's going to be cool to compete against him," the Brazilian told MMA Fighting. "Andre Galvao is one of the top in grappling, and he did a great job against Sonnen at Metamoris 4. I think Sonnen will come in strong and try that guillotine, one of his best attacks, but I don't see him catching me, submitting me. I will submit him in less than 10 minutes."

That "best attack" is the same one that prompted this upset.

Sobral and Sonnen -- who also called it quits in 2014 -- will test their ground skills in the Metamoris 6 submission grappling event, scheduled for May 9 in Los Angeles, California. "Babalu" battled Dean Lister to a draw at Metamoris 3, while "The American Gangster" came up short against the aforementioned Galvao at Metamoris 4.

So ... who's rooting for the "bad guy?"
