Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is bringing mixed martial arts (MMA) fans a featherweight bangfest for the upcoming UFC 189: "Aldo vs. McGregor" pay-per-view (PPV) event, booked for July 11, 2015 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dennis Bermudez vs. Jeremy Stephens.
Bermudez (14-4) was oh-so-close to earning a 145-pound title shot after stringing together seven-straight wins. Unfortunately, he was sent to the back of the line by Ricardo Lamas, who strangled "The Menace" into submission last November.
Not that it's been all wine and roses for Stephens (23-11).
"Lil' Heathen" is coming off consecutive losses to Cub Swanson and Charles Oliveira, after what looked to be a promising start to his featherweight career. The former 155-pound slugger has been competing for UFC for nearly eight years, but can't seem to get over that top 10 hump.
No time like the present.
The stacked UFC 189 championship doubleheader features reigning featherweight champion Jose Aldo battling division No. 1 contender Conor McGregor, while Robbie Lawler puts his welterweight title on the line against 170-pound wunderkind Rory MacDonald.
