Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title contender, Josh Koscheck, was out to provide last night (Sat., March 21, 2015) that he still had some gas in his mixed martial arts (MMA) tank.
Unfortunately for Koscheck, he's running on empty.
Erick Silva submitted "Kos" in the first round of the UFC Fight Night 62 co-main event inside Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a textbook guillotine choke. Perhaps Koscheck was woozy from eating several clean shots for three minutes -- or maybe still rusty after taking off the entire 2014 season -- but that's a situation he would, in the past, either never be in or fight his way free.
Like Jake Ellenberger before him, Silva was just too much for Koscheck to handle. And at age 37, it's unclear after his two most recent performances who Koscheck can handle in the always crowded, and competitive, 170-pound division.
Silva, meanwhile, finally cobbled together back-to-back wins inside the Octagon for the first time ever in his career.
Better late than never.
