We now know the reason Ronda Rousey was in such a big hurry to get through Cat Zingano this past weekend (Sat., Feb. 28, 2015) at UFC 184.
It seems "Rowdy" was eager to start prepping for her next movie project, as Variety has confirmed that she has nabbed a co-starring role in the upcoming action film "Mile 22" alongside Indonesian superstar, Iko Uwais.
The film, which begins shooting in May, is set to be produced by Peter Berg who -- for all you Hollywood neophytes out there -- has one of the most impressive resumes in the business with films such as "Lone Survivor," "Hancock," "Collateral" and many more to his credit.
Though not a ton of details were given, the report offered up a brief synopsis of the film:
"The film explores the relationship between a CIA field officer and an Indonesian police officer, forced to work together as they confront violent and extreme political corruption."
Iko is perhaps best known for his work on "The Raid: Redemption" and "The Raid 2," as well as many other action films in which he does most of his own stunts.
Ironically enough, he, too, got his start in the movie business as a traditional martial artist focusing on the Indonesian art of Silat. Once his skills got the attention of filmmakers, the rest, as they say, was history.
Rousey previously announced that with blessing of Dana White she would be taking time off from defending her belt soon after UFC 184 to partake in the project. And now that a date for production has been confirmed, the rest of the women's bantamweight title hopefuls can go ahead and start phoning UFC matchmakers for another bout in the interim.
