Welp ... hasn't been a good month for former Bellator champions.
Not long after learning that ex-light heavyweight kingpin Emanuel Newton tested positive for marijuana (more on that here), word comes that former middleweight titleholder Alexander Shlemenko flunked for elevated testosterone, according to a report from MMA Junkie.
That earns him a $2500 fine and an indefinite suspension, pending a disciplinary hearing.
"We are disappointed to hear about the results of Shlemenko's drug test," Bellator MMA president Scott Coker said in a statement. "As I've stated previously, performance-enhancing drugs have no place in this sport, and Bellator fully supports the commission in enforcing harsh penalties to deter fighters from taking banned substances."
That's not all.
Shlemenko's thrilling knockout win over Melvin Manhoef at Bellator 133, which took place back on Feb. 13 in Fresno, California, has now been changed to a no contest. Elsewhere on the card, Emelio Chavez tested positive for marijuana and was suspended for 30 days, as per MMA Fighting.
