Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

"Shelftime" no more?

Oft-mocked for his long gaps between fights, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, will enter the Octagon this Saturday (March 14, 2015) for the second time in three months, taking on N0. 1-ranked division contender, Rafael dos Anjos, in the main event of UFC 185 from American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

While Pettis makes his second title defense, another champion, Carla Esparza, will make her first when she puts her 115-pound women's title on the line against Poland's Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Elsewhere on the pay-per-view (PPV) card, knockout machines collide at both Welterweight and Heavyweight when former division champion, Johny Hendricks, will lock horns with Matt Brown, while Alistair Overeem faces Roy Nelson up north.

It's a hell of a PPV event; therefore, let's see if we can't make them pay you.

UFC 185 Odds For The Under Card:

Ross Pearson (-350) vs. Sam Stout (+290)
Elias Theodorou (-340) vs. Roger Narvaez (+280)
Daron Cruickshank (-140) vs. Beneil Dariush (+120)
Jared Rosholt (-300) vs. Josh Copeland (+250)
Sergio Pettis (-485) vs. Ryan Benoit (+385)
Joseph Duffy (-550) vs. Jake Lindsey (+425)
Larissa Pacheco (-155) vs. Germaine de Randamie (+135)

Thoughts: Honestly, not seeing terribly much this week, folks. If you want a good parlay stuffer, though, I think Pearson’s your man.

Stout has never been the technician Joe Rogan is fond of proclaiming him as and, in recent years, his straightforward aggression has gotten less and less effective. He’s had to rely on his middling wrestling game and some questionable judging, which really bodes ill against a true technician with solid takedown defense.

I will honestly be very surprised if Pearson doesn’t wipe the floor with him, so be sure you’re in position to benefit from it.

Sticking "Real Deal" in with Duffy might not be a bad idea. Lindsey is almost assuredly in for a rough night.

As far as the others, a small bet on de Randamie might work. While she’s been out for a worrying amount of time, she’s got the kind of striking acumen to punish Pacheco’s wild aggression and lack of defense. Put a bit down on the Dutchwoman.

UFC 185 Odds For The Main Card:

Anthony Pettis (-450) vs. Rafael Dos Anjos (+360)
Carla Esparza (-165) vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk (+145)
Johny Hendricks (-350) vs. Matt Brown (+290)
Alistair Overeem (-210) vs. Roy Nelson (+175)
Henry Cejudo (-580) vs. Chris Cariaso (+440)

Thoughts: As good as Hendricks has looked in the build up to the fight, having finally realized that ballooning up to more than 200 pounds isn’t the best career move, Brown’s worth a look at those odds. Even in three-round fights, Hendricks has faded in the past, most notably against Carlos Condit. He did go five solid rounds with Robbie Lawler and Georges St. Pierre, but neither of those men offered the kind of brutal attrition that Brown does. Further, "The Immortal" has shored up his counter-wrestling quite a bit. I can certainly see him taking over the fight late. And even though Hendricks’ iron beard precludes a knockout, doing enough damage to earn the nod, +290 severely underrates Brown’s abilities.

UFC 185 Best Bets:

  • Parlay -- Ross Pearson and Joseph Duffy: Bet $90 to make $46.63
  • Single bet -- Germaine de Randamie: Bet $20 to make $27
  • Single bet -- Matt Browne: Bet $20 to make $58

Tons of action and quality prospects up and down the card; this'll be a good one.
