Spike TV president Kevin Kay insists Bellator 'not minor leagues,' currently on 'even footing' with UFC

Spike TV President Kevin Kay has a little message for UFC fanboys heading into the Bellator 133 mixed martial arts (MMA) event this Friday night (Feb. 13, 2015) inside the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.

Bellator is NOT the minor leagues, despite the frequent reference point by attorneys during the preliminary stages of the recent UFC lawsuit (more on that here).

"That's just lawyers talking," Kay told MMA Fighting. "They have to position stuff a certain way. We're right on an even footing [with the UFC], I believe. We're certainly not the minor leagues. Obviously, they are the market leaders right now, but I think Bellator is stepping up in a big way."

How big?

Well, newly-appointed CEO Scott Coker is already scouring the globe for talent not signed to the ZUFFA banner, which includes young, highly-sought after prospects, as well as members of the old guard who can still draw fans nostalgic for yesteryear.

That said, will you be tuning in this Friday night for "Manhoef vs. Shlemenko?"
