Fans longing to witness former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) stars Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen finally duke it out may have the opportunity after all, but not in any sort of sanctioned mixed martial arts (MMA) fight.
Then again, when has that stopped them before?
Once the rumors began to swirl that Sonnen and Silva had been invited by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) brass to WrestleMania 31 to discuss "stuff," the "American Gangster" confirmed the details on TSN's "Off The Record" (video here).
Now "The Axe Murderer" is doing his part, confirming on his Instagram earlier today that he received a "great" proposal from WWE:
While the details are still scarce, it seems possible the bitter rivals will be taking part -- in someway at least -- at WrestleMania 31.
Of course, this is not the first time we've heard Sonnen vs Silva was a possibility in some other organization, as there were talks of an MMA fight in XFC or potentially a jiu-jitsu match at Metamoris before UFC brass shut that down, noting Silva was still bound to his ZUFFA contract and could not compete in MMA anywhere else but the Octagon.
Whatever happens, it seems destined that Sonnen and Silva will collide; Wherever and whenever it goes down remains to be seen.
