It's been a busy few days for Asia's biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, with ONE FC announcing a major brand change, as well as six new matches for next month's card in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and eight fighters whose names have been added to the roster.
ONE FC will now be known as ONE Championship in a rebranding exercise that was reportedly made because some potential sponsors and partners had qualms about associating themselves with an organization that contained word "fight" in its name.
However, it is business as usual for ONE Championship in terms of putting together actual fights, with six more announced for ONE Championship: "Age of Champions," which is set for Stadium Putra in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on March 13, 2015, and will be headlined by a Flyweight title fight between Adriano Moraes and Asuka Mikami.
Two of the bouts will be televised live on free-to-air Channel 9, enabling fans to see two of the nation's most popular fighters in action as Peter Davis (9-3) takes on former SFL champion Rajinder Singh Meena (8-1) in the Lightweight division and Ann Osman (2-1) goes up against promotional newcomer Angela Lee in Flyweight action.
The other four fights announced for that card see Ev Ting (8-2) take on Cary Bullos (7-2) at 145 pounds, Anatpong Bunrad (4-1) face Saiful Merican (3-2) at 125 pounds, Gianni Subba (4-1) go up against Thanh Vu (4-3) at 125 pounds and Chan Rothana (2-1) go head-to-head with Ramon Gonzales (1-0 in the 135-pound division.
Meena and Mikami are among eight new ONE Championship signings who were announced today and will be joined on the roster by Welterweight prospects Christian Uflacker (5-0) and Dae Ryeong Kim (5-0), Bantamweights up-and-comers Jordan Lucas (7-0) and Mark Striegl (13-1) and Lightweight Kuat Khamitov (18-3-1).
