As a wise man once said, "We don't get fooled again."
Rumors continue to swirl around the long-awaited bout between once-in-a-generation superstars Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. First we heard it was in the works, then we heard it was almost done, but then Super Bowl 49 came and went without a peep.
I'm thinkin' we done been bamboozled once again.
The bookies over at Bovada seem a bit more confident than I am, though, releasing a handful of odds for the megabout.
Let's see what's in store"
Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. -- 1/3 (-300)
Manny "Pac Man" Pacquiao -- 23/10 (+230)
Will the fight go the distance?
Yes (Fight goes the distance) -- 1/3 (-300)
No (Fight does not go the distance) -- 2/1 (+200)
Total PPV Buys
Over/Under -- 3.15 million
My recommendation: Whatever you do, don't assume this will happen until they're in the ring staring at each other. If you do have to make bets, make them no sooner than the weigh-ins to avoid any hassles (i.e. refunds).
Nonetheless, Pacquiao is ostensibly the better bargain of the two. I'm not sure how well Mayweather's defensive shell can stand up to someone with the kind of heat in his left straight that Pacquiao packs. And "Money's" legs haven't been there for a while. Though both men are past their primes, Pacquiao seems to have enough of a stylistic edge to make him worth the investment.
We'll keep you posted as this never-ending story progresses.
