Carlos Condit targets Octagon return at UFC 187 on May 24 in Las Vegas

Opponent TBD.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit hasn't seen the inside of the Octagon since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in March, 2014 during his welterweight bout against Tyron Woodley at UFC 171 in the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

But after undergoing surgery and going through a tedious rehab process, "The Natural Born Killer" is ready to get back into the swing of things, as he eyes a return to action this summer.

"I don't have a fight just booked, but I do have a target date," said Condit during a recent media scrum (via MMA Weekly).  "I am going to try to get on the card here in May in Vegas. I don't think the headline has been announced, that's my timeline," he said.

UFC 187, which is currently slated to take place on May 24, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, will likely feature a light heavyweight title fight between division champion Jon Jones and No. 1 contender Anthony Johnson.

Condit's year-long absence from the sport hasn't affected his standing in the rankings, as he is still holding down the No. 4 spot (full standings here). With a victory over the right opponent, Condit could find himself in the thick of the title race. Who he takes on in his much-anticipated return, remains to be seen.

"I don't have an opponent in mind," stated Carlos. "My division is pretty matched up at this point, so we'll see how those fights play out and I'll have a better idea."

Indeed, the welterweight division is pretty busy at the moment, with most of the Top-10 field having either recently fought, our are booked to tango in the near future. And you can bet that the former No. 1 contender will be an interested spectator with all of the upcoming action, as a future foe could emerge in the near future.

For now, Condit says he's busy training and working on himself, rather than for a certain challenge, and says thanks to his great rehab, he can go full speed in the training room.

"The rehab is long and tedious, but I am back and I'm training at 100-percent. I feel good," he concluded.

Any of you out there in fantasy matchmaking land care to throw out a few suggestions for Condit's next challenge?
