Even though Tyron Woodley's welterweight battle against Kelvin Gastelum did not live up to the hype this past weekend (Sat., Jan. 31, 2015) at UFC 183 in Las Vegas, "The Chosen One" came out of the entire situation as a class act.
Following Gastelum missing weight by 10 pounds, Woodley chose to accept the fight so his fans could watch him perform, and once he earned the split decision victory (full results here), the former Strikeforce product stole the show with his humble attitude during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.
During those few moments where most fighters thank their coaches and the fans that came out, Woodley took the time to note he would not be taking 30 percent of Gastelum's purse, even though it was warranted due to Gastelum missing weight.
As if his actions post-fight were not impressive enough, Woodley hit Instagram late Monday evening to share that he had broken his foot in the first round of his co-main event bout.
Here is the caption from Woodley:
Well @UFC fans I broke my foot N the 1st rnd. I never want 2 make excuses so I pushed through & kept my GameFace Small injury & B back soon! @ufc #ufc #FergusonStrong
Well doesn't that look horrible.
It is hard not to respect Woodley following UFC 183, and you can bet the No. 3 ranked welterweight in the division will have a whole new legion of fans by the time he steps back into the Octagon fully healed.
