Josh Thomson injured, pulled from UFC Fight Night 62 (Updated)

UPDATE: MMA Fighting reports that Josh Thomson will be replaced by Brazilian prospect Alex Oliveira.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is hoping to find a short-notice replacement for Gilbert Burns for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 62 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, scheduled for March 21, 2015 inside Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

That's because former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson has been injured and forced to withdraw from their 155-pound scrap, according to Lance (via MMA Fighting). Considering the number of "names" on this FOX Sports 1 fight card, that's a considerable loss.

Expect a replacement to be named in the coming days.

Originally headlined by a bantamweight showdown between Urijah Faber and Raphael Assuncao, the UFC Fight Night 62 event now features a five-round, welterweight main event pitting Demian Maia opposite Ryan LaFlare. Elsewhere on the card, local hero Erick Silva welcomes submission specialist Ben Saunders.
