Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight titleholder Frank Mir got back into the win column last Sunday night (Feb. 22, 2015) by stepping on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in Brazil (replay). The upset victory snapped a four-fight losing streak and put Mir right back into the thick of things.
Well, sort of.
With title contention many moons away, the 35-year-old grappler can instead focus on feature fights, like a potential rubber match against a certain WWE wrestler who continues to surface in the mixed martial arts (MMA) headlines (because of this).
Mir opens up at the UFC Fight Night 61 post-fight press conference (watch it):
"If Brock Lesnar decides to come back, I'll welcome him back. I don't think he likes getting punched very much and I'm looking like I'm actually figuring how to punch pretty hard. A rubber match between the two of us would be a phenomenal fight. To keep that anywhere in the works, I had to get a win. I think it would be something that would catapult my name even higher up. It's not something like, ‘I'm going to win this to fight Brock.' It was like, 'Man, I need to win this to keep my job, or my wife is not going to let me go to the gym any more. It's not going to pay the bills. I'm going to have to get a 9-to-5.'"
Mir spoiled Lesnar's Octagon debut over seven years ago in Las Vegas, Nevada; however, the former collegiate wrestling champion got his revenge -- violently -- with a second-round drubbing at the historic UFC 100 pay-per-view (PPV) event in July 2009.
A lot has changed between now and then ... any guesses as to who would win their third and final fight?
