Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is stacking the deck for their UFC 187 pay-per-view (PPV) on May 23, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, announcing today that No. 1 flyweight contender John Dodson will return from knee surgery to face off against No. 9 ranked Zachary Makovsky.
The long-awaited Octagon return of number one-ranked flyweight contender John Dodson will take place at UFC 187 on May 23, as "The Magician" takes on number nine-ranked Zach Makovsky at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
"The Magician" has been sidelined for around eight months following surgery to repair a torn meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), but is currently riding a two-fight winning streak since losing to UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson back in January, 2013.
As for Makovsky, he rebounded from his first UFC loss by defeating Tim Elliott via unanimous decision last weekend on the "Prelims" portion of UFC Fight Night 60. "Fun Size" has a huge opportunity in May to defeat a top ranked contender and potentially earn a UFC title shot.
The flyweight battle between Dodson vs Makovsky -- which we can likely consider a title eliminator -- is yet another sensational bout on the absolutely stacked UFC 187 PPV card.
Here is the current line-up:
UFC 187 PPV Main Event:
205 lbs.: UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones vs. Anthony Johnson
UFC 187 PPV Co-Main Event:
185 lbs.: UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort
UFC 187 Undercard (PPV, FOX Sports 1, UFC Fight Pass):
155 lbs.: Donald Cerrone vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov
265 lbs.: Andrei Arlovski vs. Travis Browne
125 lbs.: Joseph Benavidez vs. John Moraga
125 lbs.: John Dodson vs. Zach Makovsky
Wow. Could this be the most stacked event since UFC 100?
