Gut buster! Watch Thiago Alves finish Jordan Mein with a body shot at UFC 183

Even though he boasted much more mixed martial arts (MMA) experience -- and once challenged for the Welterweight title -- Thiago Alves came into his fight against Jordan Mein last night (Jan. 31, 2015) at UFC 183 as an under dog.

"Pitbull" left MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, a winner.

It wasn't easy, though, as Alves got off to a rough start. With just one match in the last two years thanks to various injuries, ring rust appeared to be a significant factor, as Mein beat him to the punch and clearly took the opening round. Undeterred, Alves came out in round two and landed a crippling kick to the Canadian's belly.

It was loud.

Mein immediately doubled over in major pain and Alves came in for the finish, swarming with a knee and punches in bunches to force the referee to intervene.

It was a huge win for Alves -- he was well on his way to getting picked apart. He'll certainly need to keep busier before we officially declare a promising 170-pound comeback.
