Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back for another year of mixed martial arts (MMA) action, starting with Saturday night's (Jan. 2, 2016) UFC 195: "Lawler vs. Condit" pay-per-view (PPV) fight card, which takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Headlining this weekend's big shebang is the welterweight title fight pitting division kingpin Robbie Lawler opposite ex-interim straphanger Carlos Condit. In the heavyweight co-main event, Andrei Arlovski and Stipe Miocic bang it out for the next crack at the 265-pound crown.
And that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Round 1: I lost my writeup for this round, but Condit managed to score a knockdown and control the striking. 10-9 Condit.
Round 2: Lawler coming out a little more aggressively this round. Body kick lands for him. One minute in. 1-2-3 by Lawler. Low kick from Condit. Robbie checks a low kick, blocks a high kick. Condit flicking out kicks. Left hook and body knee by Condot. Robbie catches him coming in with a hard combination. Two minutes in. BIG 3-2 drops Condit!. Lawler comes down into guard, looking to pound him out. Condit gets his wits back and closes his guard. Two minutes to go.
Lawler waves Condit up and they resume in the center. Straight left lands for the champ. Condit tries to go high. Lawler checking low kicks. One minute to go. Another heavy left by Lawler, followed by a right hook. Low kick lands for Condit. Right hook by Lawler, body kick by Condit. Lead uppercut by Condit met by an overhand left. Fun fight. 10-9 Lawler.
Round 3: Low kick lands for Condit. Volume favors Condit thus far but Lawler's punches are by far the bigger. Condit continues to flick out kicks, most of them blocked. One minute in. Hard counters by the champion back Condit up. Flying knee by Condit and Lawler comes back with power shots. Furious exchange on the fence. Hard counter elbow by the champ, hook kick by Condit. Two minutes in. Condit lands a low kick. Another. Condit on the advance, nothing landing clean. Two minutes to go.
1-1-2 from Condit. Lawler catches a body kick, lands a low kick, eats one in return. Counter left just misses for the champ. Both land inside; solid knees by Condit. One minute to go. Brief takedown attempt by Lawler. Right hook by Lawler. Condit lands a body kick, eats a low kick. 10-9 Condit on activity.
Round 4: So it turns out I kind of broke all my writeups before this. Oops.
Check hook by Lawler as Condit keeps up the volume. Lawler's just not doing enough at the moment; what he lands is game-changing but there's not enough of it. Body knee by Condit. One minute in. Condit tries a body kick. Robbie's just not throwing. Two minutes in. Leg kick trips Lawler up. Hard left hand lands for Lawler. He backs Condit to the fence and they exchange. Well-timed low kick trips Lawler up and Condit lands a knee on the way up. Two minutes to go.
Hard check hook by the champion. Straight right from Condit. Flying knee misses. Body kick does not. Low kick lands. One minute to go. Lawler is giving away this fight. condit with a combination. Combination wobbles Lawler. Condit looking to pour it on against the fence. Spinning elbow and a knee. Hard combinations by Condit. Lawler comes back with an overhand left 10-9 Condit.
Round 5: Lawler stalking, lands a right hook. Condit willing to trade with him. Heavy leather being thrown. Nice combo by Condit. Hard 2-3 connects for the champion. one minute in. Condit's still in there with him, lands a series of elbows. Elbows, uppercuts, spinning elbow. Lawler continues to advance. More good combinations by the challenger. Clean left uppercut connects. Lawler has three minutes to turn this around. 3-2 lands for Lawler. Lawler backs him up to the fence, eats punches. Another nice combination by Carlos Condit. Lawler throwing nukes but not landing. Two minutes to go.
Blocked head kick by Condit. Condit burying him in volume but eats a right hand. 1-2 by Lawler. Robbie swinging absolute bombs and he's hurt Condit. Lawler launching everything he's got, clobbering Condit with enormous punches. Condit throwing back! One minute to go! More thunder from Robbie Lawler. Round 1: Kish aggressive early, runs into some brutal counters in the process. Ansaroff catches a thumb flush to the eye. She takes a minute or so to recover. More brutal punches by Ansaroff as Kish wades in. She's catching her over and over with left hooks. Kish tries to take her down, cannot do so. Ansaroff shoots in. One minute in. Kish fights off the double-leg and they trade right hands on the break. Spinning elbow by Kish connects, then a right-left. Brutal right hand by Kish and they exchange in the clinch. Two minutes in. Nice right hand by Ansaroff. Body kick from Kish, Ansaroff answers in kind. Hard 2-3 by Kish and they trade bombs until Ansaroff looks for a standing arm triangle. Great exchanges thus far. Two minutes to go.
Kish catches a low kick and takes Ansaroff down, then trips her up with a low kick when she stands. Body kick by Kish, Ansaroff answers. Another good exchange inside. Hard right by Ansaroff. One minute to go. They continue scrapping Right hand by Ansaroff on the inside. Good round. 10-9 Ansaroff.

Round 1: Solid straight left from Dober to start things off. Holtzman lands a right hand in return. Kick exchange. Nice counter by Dober as Holtzman ties up against the fence. Knees by Holtzman. One minute in. Dober reverses position. They continue to jockey for position against the cage. Nasty elbow by Holtzman. Two minutes in. Inside trip attempt, no dice. Dober hits a takedown after they move away from the fence, landing in half guard. Holtzman works his way to his feet, giving up the rear waistlock. Two minutes to go.
They separate and return to the center. Dober tries a head kick and they clinch once again. Good takedown by Dober into full guard. Holtzman whacks him with short elbows. He scoots to the fence and returns to his feet, fighting off another takedown. One minute to go. They separate. Holtzman with a snap kick to the body. Dober with a couple of right hooks. Holtzman with another snap kick, eats a low kick. 10-9 Dober.
Round 2: Dober shoots, can't bring him down. Holtzman pressing him against the fence. Dober reverses, Holtzman with an elbow on the break. Check hook briefly drops Holtzman. Another one lands and Dober shoots once again. One minute in. Holtzman defending, Dober gets the rear waistlock. Elbow on the break by Dober. Counter right by Dober. Head kick lands for Holtzman. Left hook by Dober. Two minutes in. Holtzman slings Dober to the ground, landing in half guard. Full guard now, short punches from Holtzman. Dober tries a technical standup but Holtzman stays on him. Half guard for Holtzman, who's now bleeding. Two minutes to go.
Nice elbow by Holtzman. Dober tries deep half guard, can't manage to stand. Now Dober looking for the switch, Holtzman stays on him as he stands. One minute to go. Level elbow by Holtzman. One minute to go. They tie up once again and Holtzman scores another takedown into half guard. Solid elbows and punches from Holtzman until the bell. 10-9 Holtzman.
Round 3: Counter jab by Dober. Holtzman with an uppercut and hard right cross. counter left from Dober backs Holtzman up but Holtzman comes back with a right hand. Dober manages to complete another takedown into half guard. Holtzman's back up quickly. One minute in. Spinning elbow and right hand by Holtzman. Dober blasts through for another takedown attempt, finally completes another one into half guard. Two minutes in. Not much from Dober on top. Holtzman regains full guard. Now half guard. Holtzman makes it back to his feet with two minutes to go.
They separate and the ref pauses the fight to examine Holtzman's cut. It's not in a bad spot and so they continue. Holtzman fires a head kick, eats a combo. Plodding forward, taking some counters. Right hook and straight left by Dober. Dober shoots once again. One minute to go. Elbows by Holtzman as he defends. Holtzman tries ti sit out, cann't do so and Dober looks for his back. Holtzman makes it back up before the bell. 10-9 Dober.
Final result: Dober def. Holtzman by unanimous decision

155 lbs.: Joseph Duffy vs. Dustin Poirier
Round 1: Hard right hook from Poirier early on. Very aggressive start from "The Diamond." They trade heavy leather and Poirier may have rocked him with a series of right hands in the clinch. Duffy ties up briefly. Good scrap thus far. One minute in. Lead right by Duffy, mixed in with the up-jab. Duffy to the body. BIG counter right rocks Poirier and he covers up on the fence. Duffy rips to the body. Good right hand by Duffy, who's starting to find his range. Poirier with a knee and left hook. Two minutes in. Duffy landing the counter uppercut to the body well. Hard right hands from Duffy. Another counter right, then on the lead from the Irishman. Brutal right hands by Poirier in the clinch and he forces Duffy to the fence. Duffy's nose is leaking now. Poirier changes levels and dumps him with two minutes to go.
Poirier low on his legs, trying to pull him away from the fence. Nasty elbow by Poirier and he looks for a guillotine on the way up. Good shots by Poirier as Duffy gets to his feet. One minute to go. Duffy fires an elbow, then they trade right hands. Duffy's left eye is swelling badly. Right hook by Poirier and a knee. Great round. 10-9 Poirier.
Round 2: Low kicks from Poirier. Neither man's nose looks good. Duffy looks for a high kick. Dustin shoots and takes Duffy to the fence. He gets Duffy to his seat a minute in. Duffy trying to stand with his back on the fence. Poirier looking for the back, can't get it but takes half guard. Poirier's nose is leaking like mad. Two minutes in. Duffy regains guard. Solid elbow by Poirier. Duffy staying busy, but eating shots. Two minutes to go.
Good shots by The Diamond. Poirier going to work with heavy elbows. One minute to go. More elbows connect. Duffy trying to work his legs up without success. Thumping rights by Poirier before the bell. 10-9 Poirier.
Round 3: Low kick from Poirier. Duffy trying to advance. Right to the body by the Irishman, who denies a shot. Straight left from Poirier, then another. Poirier shoots in and scores another takedown on the fence. One minute in. Two minutes in. Poirier has not thrown a ground strike yet, instead just controlling. Duffy rolls for a kneebar, then a nasty-looking heel hook. Poirier gets his leg out and maintains top position with two minutes to go

Body shot and right uppercut by Duffy. Poirier hits a takedown into guard. Poirier lands a good elbow and Duffy slaps on a deep triangle. He doesn't have enough time to complete it. 10-9 Poirier.

Round 1: Low kick from Soto. 1-2 from Tanaka misses. Another low kick from Soto. One minute in. Soto advances, nearly runs into a combo. Soto staying busy with the low kicks. Tanaka shuts down a single-leg and lands some solid punches. Two minutes in. Soto connects with a left hook and low kick. Tanaka's punches just aren't landing clean for the most part. Two minutes to go.
Low kick by Tanaka. Solid lead hook by Soto. Tanaka catches a low kick and takes Soto down into guard. Soto looking for a gogoplata. It looks deep. One minute to go. Tanaka defending well thus far and gets his head out, only for Soto to transition to an omoplata. Soto goes for a leg, then uses that to slip out and back to his feet. Both smile at the end of the round. 10-9 Soto.
Round 2: Tanaka fires off a head kick. 1-2-3 by Tanaka. Soto tosses out a low kick. One minute in. Tanaka putting together solid combinations, looks for an outside trip. Knee-right hand by Tanaka. Soto with another thudding low kick. Soto tries a high kick. Body shot by Tanaka met by a left hook. Two minutes in. Tanaka lands a knee to the body and hits a nice counter takedown against the fence. Elbows by Tanaka. Soto looking for a guillotine and manages to lock up his guard. Tanaka trying to stack him, seems safe for now. Two minutes to go.
Tanaka works his way out and clocks him with an elbow. Soto doing a good job of maintaining guard thus far as Tanaka lands short blows to the head. Solid ground-and-pound by the Japanese fighter. Soto looks to sweep and a scramble ensues. One minute to go. Tanaka spins free and retakes top position. Fun fight. Tanaka keeps landing until the bell. 10-9 Tanaka.
Round 3: Quick punching exchange. Counter uppercut from Tanaka, then an intercepting knee. Low kicks from Soto. Both land left hands. Hard counter right by Soto, counter hook by Tanaka soon after. One minute in. Soto's getting the better of the punching exchanges thus far. Hard exchange. Tanaka hits a nice trip, can't keep him down. They're slinging punches in the pocket. Tanaka lands a hook, eats a jab as they continue to trade. Tanaka hits Soto as he's taunting and they just whack each other with jabs and smile. Two minutes in. Solid combination by Soto. 1-2 by Soto, right hands by Tanaka. Tanaka shoots in and trips Soto down, falling into a guillotine. Tanaka keeping up the shoulder pressure. Two minutes to go.
Tanaka defending well and manages to break his grip. Elbows by Tanaka from guard, then some solid punches. Soto scrambles back to his feet. Right hook by Soto and they continue to trade, Soto getting the better of it. Tanaka looks for an inside trip, eats an uppercut. One minute to go. Soto landing some very good punches on a tired Tanaka. Hard left hook. Left hook by Tanaka, bigger hook by Soto. Soto shoots in and completes a takedown into mount. Good scramble at the bell. 10-9 Soto.

Round 1: Lead right from Garcia connects. Once again. Westcott changes levels, gets double underhooks, and takes Garcia down into side control. One minute in. Westcott looking for mount, currently a little low. Ground-and-pound by the Canadian. Garcia giving up his back as he tries to scoot to the fence. Both hooks in for westcott, who slams home some right hands. Two minutes in. Solid shots by Westcott, who has flattened Garcia out. Garcia offering nothing in return as the punches rain down. Two minutes to go.
Finally, the referee has seen enough. TKO stoppage for Sheldon Westcott.
