Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends UFC pay scale: Give them 100 percent, get 200 percent back

Fighter pay, it seems, is a topic that will always be a hot one in mixed martial arts (MMA) circles.

For some -- such as UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor -- the paychecks couldn't get any better, while other paydays -- like those for Nate Diaz -- can improve vastly.

Nevertheless, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta says salaries are improving every year, and if you fight well, it will reflect in your bank account. It's a statement with which Strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, wholeheartedly agrees.

As she recently told Yahoo! Sports, if you give 100 percent to the promotion, UFC will reward you twofold.

"I hear people say Dana [White, the UFC president] and Lorenzo [Fertitta, its CEO] should pay the fighters better. But they don't know what they're talking about. They really take good care of us. All of us, you know? They [the fans] don't know anything about what is really going on. There are so many opportunities for all of the fighters. This is so different. You do your job and they'll take care of you. In Muay Thai, the female fighters didn't earn the same kind of money as [the men] despite doing the same job. But in UFC, all of us can earn good money, men and women. If you give 100 percent to the UFC, you'll get 200 percent back."

According to MMA Manifesto, Jedrzejczyk took home a $60,000 payday for her win at UFC 193. And that's not including her extra $40,000 sponsorship check from Reebok.

If you do the math, that's a nice chunk of change.

Jedrzejczyk can look forward to potential bigger paydays if she keeps defending her 115-pound title in impressive fashion. She'll get to do just that as she is expected to defend her strap against Claudia Gadelha sometime in 2016.

And while there will always be unhappy campers fighting for "pennies on the dollar" inside the Octagon, "JJ" is more than happy with her contract.
