The Bazzie Awards came and went last week and as expected, the spotlight was on Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm, who turned the mixed martial arts (MMA) world upside down by knocking out Ronda Rousey.
See it again here.
But elsewhere in the 2015 Bazzies, a young, relatively unknown Muay Thai fighter named Gaston "Dream Killer" Bolanos, undefeated in three trips to the ring, won for "AXS TV Fights Rising Star" after the Lion Fight prodigy left a trail of featherweight bodies in his wake.
"I’ve always been doing spinning back elbows," Bolanos told My Muay Thai. "Since I’ve become a pro I’ve been doing them more and been slicker doing them. It’s more safe to throw them. Now that there’s no elbow pads, I can throw them with a little more damage, as well."
Bolanos, 21, is a two-time South American Muay Thai Champion, U.S. Muay Thai Champion, and a two-time USA representative at the IFMA World Championships. No word yet on a possible crossover to MMA, but if and when he does, the local cutman is going to have his work cut out for him.
