Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight stars Rafael dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone clashed last night (Dec. 19, 2015) at UFC on FOX 17 inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
Dos Anjos looked unstoppable in his recent fights, and he was looking to move into the position of dominant champion. If "RDA" could secure a dominant victory similar to his title win over Anthony Pettis, it really would be hard to see the Brazilian losing any time soon.
Similarly, "Cowboy" ripped through eight straight opponents to earn this shot, and he intended to make the most of it. Cerrone has been circling the title for years, but he finally had his opportunity to snatch the crown last night.
Instead, dos Anjos ran through him.

The Brazilian struck first, landing a shockingly quick left hand. Cerrone came back with a nice outside low kick, but dos Anjos didn't land him hang around. He closed the distance with another left hand and landed a hard knee to the liver, which was the beginning of the end for "Cowboy."
Afterward, dos Anjos stepped into a brutal body kick that hurt his opponent badly. Cerrone curled over a bit and backed into the fence, where dos Anjos swarmed him with a massive flurry of punches. A majority of them connected, but Cerrone toughed it out for the moment and circled back into the center.
However, dos Anjos did not relent. Cerrone reacted with a takedown attempt, which allowed "RDA" to sprawl and circle to the turtle position. From there, dos Anjos hammered away at Cerrone, who had stopped moving and relied on his arm to block punches.
While Cerrone was defending fairly well, Herb Dean did call the stop.
For the fifth time in a row, dos Anjos put on a brutally violent performance. He wasted no time in pressuring Cerrone and firing heavy strikes at his opponent, and most of them landed. Dos Anjos was simply shockingly quick, powerful, and accurate.
This was also a very smart game plan for dos Anjos. Obviously, pressuring Cerrone is key, but dos Anjos took advantage of two proven flaws for Cerrone. Not only did he come out of the gate firing -- Cerrone is historically a slow starter -- but dos Anjos ripped his opponent's body ruthlessly. Cerrone has a fantastic chin, but it's much harder to recover from a brutal body shot.
Following this victory, it's not clear who's next for dos Anjos. "RDA" made it clear that he was willing to pair off with "The Notorious" Conor McGregor, but I have a hard time seeing McGregor really wanting that fight. Alternatively, Tony Ferguson has proven himself worth of a title shot.
Cerrone has to be distraught. After putting together all of his skill beautifully and going on the best win streak of his career, he was utterly destroyed in his opportunity to become a champion.
To his credit, Cerrone fought with intelligence. When dos Anjos came towards him with heavy pressure, Cerrone stood his ground and fired back. It didn't work out for him, but that's precisely what "Cowboy" needed to do.
Last night, Rafael dos Anjos blew through Donald Cerrone in 66 seconds. How long will the Brazilian hold onto his title?
