So what's next for the feisty Irishman?
There is the possibility that he moves up to challenge for the lightweight title. However, should that be the case, don't expect him to vacate his 145-pound strap.
During his recent interview with MMA Fighting, "Notorious" talks about making his dreams coming true as well as his future plans.
"No, there is no way, I am an active fighter. If I was inactive like previous champions or other champions, I'd understand vacating. But, I'll go up, and by the time I win the lightweight belt, it will still only be a couple of months by the time the featherweight belt is not active. So, I am an active champion and I will keep my belt and I will go up and add more belts. That's what we must do here, there is no vacating. That is not happening. I keep my belt, this is my division."
A move up to 155 pounds won't sit too well with Frankie Edgar, who earned the right to face McGregor after knocking out Chad Mendes in the first round of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 Finale one day prior to UFC 194.
But, as McGregor declared during his interview, he has plenty of options to mull over before settling on his next move. Something he says he's deserved for helping the promotion rake in the cash in 2015.
