It's almost time for the blockbuster UFC 194 pay-per-view (PPV) main card, which takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena tonight (Sat., Dec. 12, 2015) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Atop this colossal Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) card is a Featherweight title unification bout between fierce rivals Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor. Preceding the night's main event will be an exchange with the Middleweight title on the line as "All-American" champion Chris Weidman takes on No. 1 contender Luke Rockhold.
Elsewhere on the star-studded main card is a 185-pound title eliminator pitting Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza against Yoel Romero, while a tussle between rising 145-pound contenders Max Holloway and Jeremy Stephens starts things off.
However, before we can get to the evening's entrees, UFC is serving up a set of seven "Prelims" tilts, which begin at 6:30 p.m. ET on Fight Pass, after which they transfer to FOX Sports 1 (FS1) at 8 p.m. ET for the remaining four.
Below are the results recaps for the four UFC 194 FS1 "Prelims" bouts:
Urijah Faber vs. Frankie Saenz
Perennial Bantamweight contender Faber restarts his assault on the 135-pound division and begins by facing off with Fight Ready's Saenz.
Big inside leg kick from both men early. Knee to the body by Faber. The two fight in the clinch. Faber lands a good knee. Looks for the trip, doesn't get it. Saenz on top now. We're back up qith 4:00 to go. Faber rips one to the body. The 35-year-old Saenz scores with a good inside leg kick, dropping Faber briefly. Saenz slips a Faber right hand. Faber finds the mark with a knee to the body of Saenz. Faber scores with an elbow. Saenz is hurt a bit. Good step-in knees by Faber. Saenz' takedown defense is excellent. Faber catches a kick. Good outside leg kick by Saenz. They trade knees in the clinch. Saenz scores with an elbow on the break. He scores with a step-in knee of his own as both men tie up in the clinch to close out round one.
Very good elbows. Huge shots along the cage for Faber after he lands a devastating body kick. Saenz holding own, looking for the Thai clinch. Faber with the trip takedown and gets the mounted crucifix position. Saenz with an incredible reversal and is in half guard now. Saenz has his hands clasped around the waist of Faber and is kneeing the thigh of "The California Kid." Faber circles out and Saenz kicked out his lead leg causing him to fall. Saenz continued with the pressure, outlanding him the rest of the round.
Nice uppercut grazes Faber. Solid body kick from Saenz. The 36-year-old Faber finds the mark with a left. Very hard knees by Saenz in the clinch. Saenz is searching for the double leg now. Faber with a knee in the clinch now. The Team Alpha Male leader scores with a right. Saenz lands a left hand on the break. Good right hand from Faber, following a knee from Saenz. Faber with a nice level change, scores the fight altering takedown. That could solidify a victory for Faber. They go to the clinch with 30 seconds. Good knee and body strikes by Saenz. He rolls for a leg lock after a failed takedown attempt, but he doesn't get it to end the thrilling tilt.
Faber gets back in the win column and calls out the winner of T.J. Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz. Saenz' seven-fight win streak is snapped.
Result: Faber via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
Tecia Torres vs. Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger
Torres looked to keep her undefeated record intact by taking out MMA Lab's Lybarger.
Torres slips after a leg kick. Good counter right and slip from Torres. A jab connects for Lybarger. American Top Team's Torres scores with a right and then a leg kick. Seems to be a cat and mouse game ensuing, with Torres looking to utilize her movement and stick and move. Another good right connects for the 26-year-old. We're in the clinch now. Torres looking for the inside trip. Under 2:00 to go. She's looking for the single. Good takedown defense from Lybarger. Torres continues her efforts for the takedown. Lybarger turns Torres around in the clinch. We ride out the round in a stalemate along the fence.
They tie up in the middle of the cage. Lybarger lands a body kick as Torres backs up. Torres scores with a right and extends her right leg for a kick. Lybarger instigates the clinch. Only one underhook for the 30-year-old. Torres has the body lock now. Torres turns her around now at the 3:00 mark. They separate. Right hand from Torres is answered by a Lybarger uppercut. Level change from Torres; she's stuffed. Back to the clinch game. The battle for underhooks wages on. Little dirty boxing and short shots. Very nice left hand by Torres. Torres reverses a takedown attempt from Lybarger and lands some good elbows with a minute left in round one. Half guard for Torres. Good hammerfists.
Good inside leg kick by Lybarger to start. Torres now has Lybarger against the fence. A good compact right hand by Torres. "The Tiny Tornado's" striking has been excellent in this fight. Lybarger scores to the body. More right hands from Torres. Lots of stalking from Lybarger, but not much offense. She's in on a double leg. Some elbows in retaliation by Torres. Beautiful left hook, right hand combo. Torres unloads with a flurry on Lybarger. Foot stomps from Torres. Lybarger's face is a mess. The right hand keeps on paying off for Torres, as Lybarger rallies with a few hard shots at the end of round three.
Torres improves to 7-0, while Lybarger's four fight win streak is up in smoke.
Results: Torres via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
Warlley Alves vs. Colby Covington
Undefeated Welterweight grapplers went to battle as Alves took on American Top Team's Covington.
Hard body kick by Alves on the southpaw Covington. "Chaos" shoots for a takedown and gets it. The Brazilian pops back up, but Covington is deep on a double against the cage. Alves wants the guillotine choke -- it's his favorite submission. Covington's neck is cinched deep. He tries to slam his way out of it, but it's too late. Alves secures the tap early in the first round (1:26).
It's Alves' fourth victory via guillotine choke in his MMA career. Covington's undefeated record takes a hit as he falls to 8-1.
Result: Alves via first-round submission (guillotine choke)
Leonardo Santos vs. Kevin Lee
Surging Lightweight prospects took to the Octagon to see who would continue their climb up the 155-pound ladder.
A couple of high kick attempts from Lee. A right hand finds the mark for the American. The Brazilian Santos scores with a front body kick. Lee sneaks a jab through. Santos connects with his own jab. Chopping leg kick from Santos. Santos back to the heavy outside leg kick. Huge body kick to the body by Lee. "The Motown Phenom" goes to the body successfully, but is taken down by Santos, who finds Lee's back. They stand back up, but Santos is in hot pursuit. Lee scores with a right, but is dropped by a right hand counter from Santos, who unleashes blistering ground and pound for the stoppage at the 3:26 mark.
Santos earns his second straight finish in UFC and is on a three-fight win streak. Lee's four fight win streak is snapped.
Result: Santos via first-round technical (knockout)
