Prior to his dismissal of "Durkin," the 36-year-old former title challenger was thwarted by former champion Jon Jones and Phil Davis back in 2014. Cummins came into his tilt with the Brazilian a winner of four of his last five.
The All-American wrestler scored first with an early takedown, but Teixeira was able to wither out from the bottom rather easily. Pretty soon, the Connecticut-based fighter was landing at will, from vicious jabs to destructive hooks.
Cummins would connect on another takedown, for which he received the same result. Teixeira withstood the wrestling of his opponent, which thus far has been Cummins' only weapon in the Octagon, and walloped him repeatedly to close round one.
In the second frame, Teixeira was once again teeing off and this time it was for good. After referee Herb Dean had seen enough blood spilled by Cummins, he called a stop the their contest just over a minute into round two, handing Teixeira the important 'W' and the latter his second loss in three fights.
Teixeira improves his record to 24-4, while Cummins falls to 8-3.
