Two out of three for "The Phenom."
Vitor Belfort defeated Dan Henderson by knockout in a highly-anticipated trilogy fight last night (Sat., Nov. 7, 2015) at UFC Fight Night 77 inside Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil (Watch highlights here).
The 38-year-old Brazilian landed a high kick in the opening round, finishing off Henderson on the ground seconds later to pick up his 25th career victory.
The official stoppage came at the 2:07 mark of the opening round.
Belfort, who is not ranked No.4 in the middleweight divison, finished Henderson by technical knockout back at UFC Fight Night 32 in Nov. 2013 in similar fashion. Henderson won their first encounter via unanimous decision at Pride 32 in 2006.
The first two minutes were relatively quiet except for a pair for low kicks landed by "Hendo," which, sadly, would end up being the only strikes he would land the entire evening.
With just about three minutes left in the opening frame, Belfort connected on a left high kick that badly hurt Henderson. The 45-year-old ducked under a swarming Belfort and the former UFC champion got on top and wailed away with big left hands until referee Mario Yamasaki stepped in to stop it.
"The Phenom" set two UFC records with the win over Henderson. The win was Belfort's (25-11) 12th career first-round knockout and 14th career finish in UFC. Henderson (31-14) was the No.12-ranked middleweight headed into this fight and has now lost three out of his last four fights.
