One critical error was all it took for Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight Thiago Tavares to stake his claim for a "Performance of the Night" bonus when he wrangled the neck of Clay Guida on UFC Fight Night 77's "Prelims" undercard tonight (Sat., Nov. 7, 2015) inside Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Guida, 33, has refined his mixed martial arts (MMA) attack in recent years, opting for a grappling-heavy approach as compared to his previous gunslinging mentality.
"The Carpenter" applied his trade early against Tavares.
The Brazilian was aptly taken down by the ground specialist, but found an opening for a guillotine choke and never let go. Guida has now lost via submission in two of his last three fights.
