The "King" won't be fighting "The Last Emperor" but they will share the same card, according to announcements made during Bellator 145 on Friday (Nov. 6, 2015) in Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri and live on Spike TV.
Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal will be healed up and back in action soon from a rib injury he sustained at Bellator 142, in time for the special Rizin World Fighting Grand-Prix on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015 from Tokyo, Japan.
Now dubbed "Breakfast with Fedor", Spike will begin its three hour coverage at 10:00 a.m. ET/PT, ending with the main event featuring the legendary Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko's return from retirement.
His opponent? TBA.
"Fedor's return is receiving global attention, and we want to give our fans the chance to see it New Year's Eve morning with minimal delay," said Jon Slusser, senior vice president of sports and specials for Spike. "What better way to end the year than waking up with Fedor."
Taking place in the hallowed Saitama Super Arena, the MMA event marks the debut of Rizin world Fighting, a new promotion run by former Pride FC founder Nobuyuki Sakakibara. The Grand-Prix will include a tournament and fights on Dec. 29 and 31.
Bellator MMA will be among the several combat sports organizations partnering with Rizin World Fighting for the Grand-Prix, which is where "King Mo" comes in. His fight will take place Dec. 29 against an opponent to be named.
Details on the other participating fighters will be announced at a later date.
Other announced fighters/bouts include a catchweight fight between Japanese legends Shinya Aoki and Kazushi Sakuraba, and the long-awaited MMA debut of pro wrestler Lei'd Tapa against the freakishly giant genetics of Gabrielle Garcia.
