Inaccurate! UFC shoots down Jon Jones' story about losing light heavyweight title

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

There are two sides to every story.

In this instance, the side presented by Jon Jones is "100-percent inaccurate." Well, that's according to a UFC "official," who insists the promotion's decision to strip "Bones" of the light heavyweight strap was made well in advance of UFC President Dana White's trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and not as punishment for bailing on UFC 187.

From MMA Fighting:

A UFC official told MMA Fighting that Jones' claim is "100 percent inaccurate" and the decision to strip him of the title was made before a meeting between Jones and the organization ever took place. The official said that execs flew to Albuquerque to offer their support, as well as inform him of their decision to strip him of the belt face to face. The UFC official added that the organization stayed in close communication with Jones, his manager and his publicist throughout the legal process. Execs also flew down to Albuquerque the day of Jones' plea hearing and attended the court proceedings.

Hear Jones' side of the story here.

The belt was handed over in the wake of "Bones'" hit-and-run accident earlier this year, one that left him -- by his own words -- unfit to compete. In addition to losing his title, the promotion suspended him from active competition until he settled his matters in court.

Now it's time to put all of that behind him and get back to work. Or back to bending over, depending on which side of the cage you're on.
