Back when Jon Jones was at his lowest of lows following a hit-and-run car accident, then women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was in his corner.
"Bones" struck a pregnant woman's car last April and was promptly stripped of his Light Heavyweight title by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) brass. Jones was then suspended indefinitely before eventually reaching a plea agreement with Albuquerque, N.M., prosecutors in late September.
During his roughly five-month suspension is when "Rowdy" reached out to the former pound-for-pound superstar (via MMA Fighting).
"Ronda has actually been very supportive of me. She texted me quite a few times, man. She even invited me to come and stay at her beach house in California. 'Jon, you're going to come back from this. Anything I can do for you, you let me know. If you want to get away, I got a house here and not many people know where it's at or whatever. It's your house until you get right. Stuff like that just shows you, man, this girl is on top of the world right now and she's sitting here thinking about me at my darkest hour. That's something that I'll never forget."
Jones was reinstated by the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion last month and is likely slated for a rematch with current 205-pound king and nemesis Daniel Cormier in early 2016.
The New York native is hoping to clash heads with "DC," who he defeated via unanimous decision at the UFC 182 pay-per-view (PPV) back in January, in "The Big Apple."
Jones has clearly been putting his time away to good use, working his way back into Octagon shape.
He's pondered what a showdown with ex-Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez might be like in the past, and right now, it appears the standout wrestler is doing a lot of bulking so it's definitely possible the duo meet some time down the road.
It will be at least another few months before we see Jones back inside the Octagon. Maybe he can repay the kindness offered up by Rousey and help the profound Judo player in her quest to regain the 135-pound strap she lost to Holly Holm?
