Alberto Mina (12-0) fought off a late rally by Yoshihiro Akiyama (14-6 2NC) and held on to win a split decision earlier today at UFC Fight NIght 79 inside Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, South Korea.

Two of the judges gave Mina a 29-28 score, while the other gave the same score for Akiyama.

The bout was fairly even after the opening round and continued on that way until Mina knocked Akiyama to the floor toward the end of the second round with a big flurry. Mina pounced on top of the 40-year-old Japanese veteran, but he could not seal the deal.

In the final frame, it was Akiyama who would turn the tide and take control as it looked like the low kicks Akiyama had been landing throughout the fight were beginning to take their toll. Like Akiyama in the second, MIna would survive until the round's conclusion.

Mina, 33, remains undefeated after a tough and hard-fought bout. Akiyama's disappointing UFC run falls to 2-4.
