Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is beefing up its UFC on FOX 18 mixed martial arts (MMA) fight card -- literally -- with the addition of a heavyweight hoedown inside Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, scheduled for Jan. 30, 2016.
Ben Rothwell vs. Josh Barnett.
Rothwell (35-9) is the winner of three straight, which includes three finishes, having recently submitted Matt Mitrione back in June. "Big" Ben was expected to tangle with Stipe Miocic for a spot in the 265-pound title hunt, until the latter was injured and re-booked for a "Pitbull" fight.
Onward and upward.
Barnett (34-7) returned to combat sports after a lengthy absence -- and a technical knockout loss to Travis Browne -- by knocking around Roy Nelson for five rounds last September in Japan. "The Warmaster" has seen action just three times since his 2013 return to UFC.
Early predictions?
UFC on FOX 18 will be headlined by a light heavyweight showdown pitting top division contender Anthony Johnson against fellow 205-pound title hopeful Ryan Bader. Elsewhere on the card, veteran welterweight slugger Jake Ellenberger tangles with Tarec Saffiedine.
