Ronda Rousey may be the slight favorite in a rematch against Holly Holm -- despite getting knocked silly by "The Preacher's Daughter" at UFC 193 a few weeks back -- but that doesn't mean an immediate rematch is in the best interest of her career.
At least not according to Brian Stann, who stopped by The MMA Hour to explain why he would advise "Rowdy" against taking an immediate rematch against the newly-crowned women's bantamweight champion.
His words:
"In my opinion, yes. I think it would be better for her (to take another fight before rematch). You want to fight the biggest fights in your career when you are in a rhythm and have confidence, things are going well with your support network; your trainers and you're in that right moment. For Holly, it was that time. She's got a great strong family around her, she's got a whole community in Albuquerque around her, coaching staff, teammates focused on her. Ronda's life is more complicated because she's been the biggest star we have ever seen in the sport. And that's difficult, you know? So, if I'm her trainer, I know it's not the best move financially and not what the organization wants, but I would want that. I would want her to work out some kinks and prepare a little bit more for what people think now can defeat her and go into that fight where she is hungry and she is focused. From my view. If I was her trainer, I'd rather have her kick somebody's butt and then fight Holly with her confidence and swagger."
Sound advice from the mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran.
Of course, Ronda likely won't return to the Octagon anytime soon, as she revealed she has plans to take a well-deserved hiatus from the sport to focus on her side projects. Which means Holm may be tasked with another fight in between.
As for who Stann would take in a rematch, he's riding with his former Jackson-Winkeljohn stablemate to come out on top, yet again.
