Latest 'Cotto vs Canelo' Vegas odds, prop bets and gambling guide

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Puerto Rico and Mexico lock horns once again this Saturday evening (Nov. 21, 2015) as multi-division champion Miguel Cotto faces young superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the HBO Boxing main event of a four-fight card that will emanate from inside Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MMAmania will deliver LIVE coverage of "Cotto vs. Canelo" this weekend, starting with the HBO pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast at 9 p.m. ET.

In the co-main event, WBC titlist Takashi Miura faces Francisco Vargas in an excellent Super Featherweight clash, while Guillermo Rigondeaux makes his long-awaited return opposite Pinoy veteran Drian Francisco. In addition, unbeaten Jayson Velez opens the televised main card in a featherweight match up against Ronny Rios.

And that's not even mentioning the undercard, which we will stream live on MMAmania.com this Saturday evening.

The oddsmakers know where the money's going, however, focusing their efforts on the terrific main event. Check out the latest lines and prop bets "Cotto vs. Canelo."

Thoughts
I'll admit to being a bit surprised that Alvarez is this big of a favorite -- Cotto has looked ferocious recently, bringing to bear a wealth of experience fighting world-class opposition. He'll be the smaller and older man in the ring, sure, but he also has the cardio edge on paper and throws more volume.

This is, in my mind, much more of a 50:50 fight than these lines suggest.

At the same time, I can't in good conscience recommend a bet on Cotto. He's 10 years older and has a huge amount of mileage on him compared to "Canelo," while the latter seems to have at least somewhat mended his issue of fighting in bursts. Cotto's return to seek-and-destroy aggression will give Alvarez the opportunity to plant his feet ... and he's as good as anyone in the world when he can do so.

Overall, I'd say the only winning move is not to play. Instead, sit back and enjoy the violence with a peaceful mind.
