Dana White: Immediate Holly Holm vs Ronda Rousey rematch 'makes sense'

Esther Linn/MMAFighting

Holly Holm (10-0) shocked the world at UFC 193 last night (Sat., Nov. 14, 2015), knocking out Ronda Rousey (12-1) with a vicious head kick in round two inside Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, to become the new Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's Bantamweight champion.

"Preacher's Daughter" handed Rousey her first-ever career defeat in easily the biggest upset in the history of the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion to remain undefeated and notch her third straight fight inside the Octagon.

The main event was awarded "Fight of the Night" honors, and UFC president Dana White was asked about the possibility of a rematch at the post-fight press conference (watch video replay here).

"I mean, obviously we don't make fights the night of the fight, but the rematch makes a lot of sense," he said. "The rematch is what people would want to see. It changes a lot of things now. The Cyborg fight ... some other stuff we were working on."

White has seen his share of upsets over the years: Matt Serra defeating Georges St-Pierre and Chris Weidman finishing Anderson Silva were the two biggest prior to tonight. Both of those fights spawned huge rematches. Rousey's invincible aura was broken at UFC 193, but a second fight with Holm to try and reclaim the title would assuredly draw huge numbers.

Holm knocking out Rousey was just one of those unexpected fights that makes the sport great, White said.

"These are the moments in fighting that make it so crazy and so fun," he said. "Tonight was one of those moments."
