It was another late start for women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who headlined the UFC 193 main event last night (Sat., Aug. 1, 2015) inside Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, against undefeated challenger -- and former professional boxing world champion -- Holly Holm.
As usual, Rousey wasted zero time angrily racing to the Octagon, while Holm skipped and hopped her way down walkway, looking cool as a cucumber. Ringside announcers Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan attributed Holm's calm demeanor to her years of experience -- and big fights -- in the "Sweet Science."
Rousey refused to touch Holm's gloves during the pre-fight instructions and then wasted zero time trying to hunt her down once the fight began. Holm connected first as Rousey chased her across the cage, then again with a straight left that turned Rousey's face red. Rousey fired back and then one minute into the match, was finally able to get her hands around Holm and trap her along the cage.
Holm was able to escape, but Rousey cracked her with a looping left as the fight went back to the center of the cage. Rousey attempted a Judo toss, but Holm sat down and was able to get out of trouble on the ground, but Rousey drilled her on the escape with a solid right hand.
Rousey went back to chasing Holm, who kept her at bay with lowkicks and good movement. Holm landed a straight left -- and another -- as Rousey was unable to get the fight on the mat. Holm drilled Rousey again and her mouthpiece flew out. But, on the restart, Rousey landed a shot of her own and went for another takedown, but Holm was able to reverser in her favor.
HUGE ROUND FOR HOLM!
