Tension rose at UFC 193's weigh ins Friday afternoon (Nov. 13, 2015). And Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White is here to tell you that this ain't no World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
Women's Bantamweight title headliners of the mega pay-per-view (PPV) event inside Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm, nearly threw down right then and there, prompting White to intervene. However, not before cameras went to snapping and "Rowdy" roasted "The Preacher's Daughter" for her facade of a good-girl act.
White explained what he could've done better to the guys at Submission Radio:
"Well I can tell you this, that never happens. We never tell people to go do anything. If you look at the falling outs I've had with fighters over the years, don't you think that fighters would come out and say ‘they told us to go do this, and they tell us to go do that'? We don't tell the fighters to do anything. There's no push to sell tickets. Two women are selling over 50,000 tickets here, and this things trending as one of the biggest pay-per-views we've ever done, let alone this year. Ronda went after her and it seemed like they were jockeying for position, either on the outside or whatever and then Holly's hand was here [raises hand at shoulder height] and then just, Holly just hit her. And then it was on. But there's no - it's my job to make sure that that doesn't happen and that they don't put their hands on each other, and apparently I didn't do my job today."
Rousey and Holm's antics only serve to bolster a card that's expect to draw a $6 million gate and put close to 70,000 asses in seats.
UFC 193 also features a women's Strawweight championship bout pitting queen bee Joanna Jedrzejczyk against No. 8-ranked Valerie Letourneau tonight (Sat., Nov. 14, 2015) in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
