Australia: It gave us AC/DC, an unhealthy fear of wildlife and now a pair of brutal mixed martial arts (MMA) title fights.
Two champions with a flair for impressive finishes, Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk, will put their belts on the line this Saturday evening (Nov. 14, 2015) when they face off against Holly Holm and Valerie Letourneau, respectively, in the main- and co-main events of UFC 193, which takes place inside Ethiad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
In other pay-per-view (PPV) action, Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva will look to make another modern classic, while Uriah Hall once again steps in on short notice, this time against the lethal hands of Robert Whittaker.
It's a solid weekend event, so let's see if we can't get our friends in the sportsbooks to pay for it.
Here's what we've got:
UFC 193 Odds For The Undercard:
Jake Matthews (-900) vs. Akbarh Arreola (+600)
Peter Sobotta (-165) s. Kyle Noke (+145)
Gian Villante (-400) vs. Anthony Perosh (+325)
Danny Martinez (-115) vs. Richie Vaculik (-105)
James Moontasri (-320) vs. Anton Zafir (+260)
Richard Walsh (-330) vs. Steven Kennedy (+270)
Steve Montgomery (-270) vs. Daniel Kelly (+230)
Ben Nguyen (-145) vs. Ryan Benoit (+125)
Thoughts: Ordinarily, I try to steer clear of betting on fights with big punchers on both sides, but Ryan Benoit strikes me as an excellent bargain here.
Both Benoit and Nguyen have ridiculous power -- the former’s knocked out seven men an done so at both Flyweight and bantamweight, while Nguyen managed to do in one round what took John Lineker three in flattening Alptekin Ozkilic. Still, "Ben 10’s" been knocked out four times. And while the most recent loss was five years ago, it’s still a red flag against a bruiser of Benoit’s caliber.
Benoit should win the slugfest here, so bet accordingly.
UFC 193 Odds For The Main Card:
Ronda Rousey (-2000) vs. Holly Holm (+1250)
Joanny Jedrzejczyk (-2000) vs. Valerie Letourneau (+1250)
Mark Hunt (-270) vs. Antonio Silva (+230)
Uriah Hall (-140) vs. Robert Whittaker (+120)
Stefan Struve (-125) vs. Jared Rosholt (+105)
Thoughts You want to know who’s actually worth a small bet? Holm. I’m not saying she’s going to win, but in my mind she’s more of a 5:1, 6:1 underdog.
The inimitable Jack Slack has written several pieces on Rousey’s weaknesses; namely, the fact that she tends to simply rush opponents with punches rather than apply angles. Holm spent her entire boxing career as an elusive in-and-out striker, one who likely won’t fall into the same trap so many other Rousey foes have of just planting her feet and trying to knock her out before she can clinch.
Of course, all of this is moot if Holm winds up in the clinch anyway, but a $10 investment in Holm isn’t a bad idea.
As far as the others go, I like Whittaker as an underdog. He’s looked terrific since moving up to 185 pounds and, in his fight with Clint Hester, showed the ability to take serious punishment. I don’t hold the Stephen Thompson loss against him too much because "Wonderboy" managed to rock the ridiculously tough Patrick Cote and Matt Brown with those sorts of punches. In addition, Hall still has the idea of backing straight up to the fence with his hands down, a terrible idea against a puncher of Whittaker’s caliber.
The hometown fans are going to love this outcome, and so is your wallet.
UFC 193 Best Bets:
- Single bet -- Ryan Benoit: Bet $50 to make $62.50
- Single bet -- Holly Holm: Bet $10 to make $125
- Single bet -- Robert Whittaker: Bet $45 to make $63
Of course, we here at Stumberg's House o' Degeneracy ain't the only outfit in town. The fine folks over at SportsBookReview.com have their own set of "hidden gems" for your perusal. Our opinions differ on Hall-Whittaker and Montgomery-Kelly, but Peter Sobotta is definitely worth looking at.

It's a solid PPV overall -- I expect some scraps for the ages, so be sure not to miss it.
See you there, Maniacs!
