Bellator 145: "With a Vengeance" and UFC Fight Night 77: "Belfort vs. Henderson 3" took place on Fri., Nov. 6 and Sat., Nov. 7, respectively, with the former airing on Spike TV and the latter airing on FOX Sports 1 (FS1).
When you're going up against the biggest dog in the yard, it doesn't matter if you win decisively or win ugly. Any kind of win is a good win, and on this day, Bellator MMA can claim a small measure of victory.
According to our friends at MMA Fighting, Bellator edged out UFC with an average of 814,000 viewers for its night of fights in St. Louis, while UFC from Sao Paulo the following night averaged 722,000 viewers.
It should be noted that Spike TV is carried in roughly eight million more homes than FS1.
Bellator's peak for the night was for Bobby Lashley vs. James Thompson, a bout which lasted under a minute but topped out at 1,048,000 viewers.
Bellator MMA can also stake the claim of being the third most watched sports event on cable and satellite on Friday night, going head-to-head with NBA coverage on ESPN and college football on ESPN 2.
Not too shabby.
