Ronda Rousey is taking over the world, one sport at a time.
The dominant Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey has cruised through six title defenses and has visibly improved in the striking portion of mixed martial arts (MMA) along the way, having knocked out three of her last four opponents.
"Rowdy," who recently became the second woman to grace the cover of Ring Magazine, has plans of retiring sometime in the next few years and being known as the best of all-time in MMA, before pursuing a career in boxing directly after.
Her Glendale Fight Club coach Edmond Tarverdyan agrees with the decision.
When that decision is made, expect Founder of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya to have a leg up on the "Rowdy" sweepstakes.
From De La Hoya's conversation with Fight Hub TV:
I have some really big ideas for women's boxing. I've promised the women boxers that Golden Boy is going to get involved with women's boxing and so we having something brewing and this obviously the beginning (Ronda Rousey's Ring Magazine cover). Its created a lot of big buzz within the boxing industry so mission accomplished... (On Rousey pursuing a boxing career) Absolutely, we've discussed it. Whenever she's ready to step into the ring as a fighter and boxer then obviously Golden Boy Promotions will be right there with her... She's tough. She's really good. Speed, power and instinct, which is very important. She dares to be great and that's the difference between a lot of fighters. I think the toughest part [of crossing over] would have to be proving herself. She's great on the mat and on the floor. I know she can fight standing up. I've seen her. I see those instincts that she has.
Before we know it, the pop culture phenomena that is Rousey may also partake in another foray into the world of professional wrestling.
The former Olympic Judoka is scheduled to clash with former boxing world champion Holly Holm in the main event of the UFC 193 pay-per-view (PPV) inside Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on Nov. 14, 2015.
