Injuriesinjuries and more injuries. That's the price of admission for competing in mixed martial arts (MMA).

October has seen its share of them, with the recent shellacking the UFC Fight Night 76 card took before it was ultimately repaired and unveiled inside 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, just last weekend (Sat., Oct. 24, 2015).

Now, another European stalwart has been shelved.

News broke earlier this week that No. 8-ranked women's strawweight Joanne Calderwood was injured and out of her UFC Fight Night 80 matchup against rising star Paige VanZant (6-1) on Dec. 10, 2015.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has since filled the void left by "JoJo," placing the well-rounded Rose Namajunas (3-2) opposite "12 Gauge" this winter in "Sin City."

It's certainly an unsettling event for the 28-year-old, who is coming off a dominant showing over late replacement Cortney Casey at UFC Fight Night 72 last July. Overall, Calderwood is credited with just one loss on her professional record: a devastating first-round tapout to Maryna Moroz back in April.

With much to be sorted out in the 115-pound division, after you look past champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Claudia Gadelha and Carla Esparza, this is an incredibly tough pill for Calderwood to swallow.

However, since the injury doesn't appear to be that serious, when she does return, Calderwood could have her pick of names like "The Cookie Monster" and former top contender Jessica Penne, who've yet to book their next fights.
