Bellator 144's Brennan Ward thinks it sucks that Dennis Olson (or anyone else) has to fight him

New, comment

"Irish Bad Boy" Brennan Ward is known for knocking out people and running his mouth. Ahead of his Bellator 144 fight at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., this Friday night (Oct. 23, 2015) Ward chats with MMAmania.com about fighting Dennis Olson.

Bellator MMA

In case you missed our last interview with Brennan Ward, it went a little something like this:

EXPLETIVE, FOUL WORD, F-BOMB, EXPLETIVE, I DON'T GIVE A BLEEP

That's just "The Irish Bad Boy" being himself. Ward is unapologetic and unrepentant about his cocky attitude, as well as his philosophy about mixed martial arts (MMA), which is that the moment it stops being fun, "f*ck it," he's done competing.

After two straight stops, though -- a rear-naked choke of Curtis Millender and a knockout of Roger Carroll -- it's pretty clear he's far from finished. In fact, he has seemingly never had more fun since he dropped down to Welterweight.

For Ward's next fight against Dennis Olson at Bellator 144, which takes place this Friday night (Oct. 23, 2015) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., he has another opportunity to have even more fun.

His opponent, Olson, most recently missed weight when he was paired opposite Paul Daley, then he got knocked out in round two. Does Ward expect either of those things to happen this weekend?

"I expect him to probably be trying to make up for last time, but you know, it doesn't really make a difference what he does. He's got to face me and that sucks for him."

That's the M.O. for Brennan Ward -- he's not fazed by any challenge put in front of him. In fact, Ward had a change of opponent just days before his last fight in July and was totally cool with the swap.

"I mean I've been dealing with it my whole career. I mean if you go back and look at all my fights, I've had either opponents fall out, or I fill in, or someone doesn't... I've never, I mean I feel like it's every fight I have a different opponent than who I'm supposed to fight."

In typical Ward fashion, he's unsympathetic to the guys in MMA who won't take short notice fights.

"I wouldn't care if they didn't tell me who I was fighting until I stepped in the cage and saw him across from me. If you're a real fighter you fight whoever you've got. Like game planning? This and that? Fuck all that shit man. It's a fight. It all goes out the window. You're throwing down in the cage, it don't matter who you're fighting."

Ward also has no compassion for his Welterweight peers who can't figure out how to make a weight cut.

"It's your job to make weight. I've been doing it my whole life. I've been wrestling my whole life. I've been competing my whole life. You just make weight, it's what you do ... you know you just do it. There's no secret. You just fuckin' lose the weight. It's not a hard thing."

Surfing may also help Ward stay in peak physical condition. After all, it's not very often that you see guys the size of Tim Sylvia on a surfboard.

"It's hurricane season up here in the Northeast so I've been surfing a lot. It's all I really do is -- I do a lot of surfing and a lot of training. That's about it man. No such thing as too big (a wave)."

The Bellator 144 card saw a major shake up with the Marcos Galvao vs. Eduardo Dantas rematch postponed (full details here), and Ward had a few thoughts on that bout not happening.

"I was (looking forward to it). I like Dantas. He's super super tough, a charismatic fighter and yeah I wanted to see it, but you know shit happens -- people get hurt."

For "The Irish Bad Boy" it's all about surfing, fighting and not giving a f*ck. He'll take Olson -- or anyone else -- Bellator locks him in a cage with inside Mohegan Sun Arena.

"I'm feeling good. I'm feeling confident as always. That's the name of the game."

Tune in to Spike TV this Friday night to see how Ward plays the game and whether or not Olson has an answer for his reckless abandon.
