Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held its UFC 183 weigh in event earlier today (Fri., Jan. 30, 2015) inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, home of tomorrow night's "Silva vs. Diaz" pay-per-view (PPV) event.
And it was a disaster.
Welterweight Kelvin Gastelum (180) and flyweight John Lineker (130) both missed weight -- badly -- and have been fined a percentage of their fight purses (payable to Tyron Woodley and Ian McCall, respectively). It should also be noted that both fighters are repeat offenders when it comes to the dreaded scale fail.
I'm told Gastelum had flu like symptoms all week. I was told he was 5 lbs over this AM, started throwing up, rushed to hospital to hydrate.

Getting pumped with fluids is probably not the best way to lose weight.
"I came to win anyway so him missing weight didn't open up a window of opportunity," Woodley told MMA Fighting. "I'm sure the organization, his team, his fans and himself are all embarrassed enough! I don't need to point out the obvious, but instead stay focused and stick my original gameplan. WIN!"
