"If I lose I become the man that talked the talk but did not walk the walk. I go back to fighting in front of 100 people in GAA halls for €150. I've lost my mind doing this. Like Vincent van Gogh. He dedicated his life to his art and lost his mind in the process. That's happened to me. But fuck it. When that gold belt is around my waist and when my mother has a big mansion, when my girlfriend has a different car for every day of the week, when my kids have everything they ever want...then it will pay. Then I'll be happy I lost my mind. I'll die a crazy old man!"
I think we would all agree that you have to be a least a little crazy to make a living by getting punched in the face. How crazy? Well, that could vary from fighter to fighter. For Conor McGregor, the featherweight sensation who moves needles and shuts down countries, he's already gone full Vincent van Gogh, after just five fights on the biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) stage of them all. Hopefully "Notorious" -- who fights Jose Aldo for the 145-pound strap at UFC 187 in May -- doesn't lop off one of his ears (or have it removed by accident) when he gets to the promised land, though it would be a nice addition if he ever did a sequel to this six-part miniseries (transcribed by Irish Mirror). McGregor is a star, no doubt about it, but would anyone prefer to see him just Gogh away?
