I guess it's not as easy as it sounds.
Seems like whenever Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White tries to play commissioner, the promotion ends up issuing a formal apology. Such was the case when White decided he was of the authority to yank a referee he didn't agree with.
Then came the botched drug test with UFC middleweight Cung Le.
"Our legal team completed screwed that up," White told media members on Thursday (via Bleacher Report). "We fucked it up, and we will fuck it up again. That's what the commission is there for. What we'll do is we'll help fund it, so [the athletic commission] can do more drug testing. Our legal department screwed that whole thing up. We've got no business handling the regulation."
Le is now suing the promotion as part of a massive class-action lawsuit (more on that here).
Following his technical knockout loss to Michael Bisping last August, the promotion revealed that Le tested positive for human growth hormone (HGH) and issued him a
nine-month 12-month suspension. Unfortunately, the testing program implemented overseas was executed so poorly, UFC was forced to rescind its punishment.
That fiasco put a dagger in the UFC out-of-competition drug testing program, which will now defer back to local athletic commissions, where available.
A for effort?
