Conor McGregor wasn't the only fighter heading into UFC Fight Night 59 with a featherweight title shot hanging in the balance.
So too, was former division No. 1 contender Frankie Edgar, who climbed his way back to the summit with three straight wins, and stood at the precipice of a Jose Aldo rematch if Dennis Siver could upset the apple cart and derail the "Notorious" hype train.
It wasn't even close (watch it).
That means Edgar will have to take another bout in the interim, but also cautioned McGregor about his next fight, which could happen as early as UFC 187 in May, which is likely to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada (more on that here).
"The Answer" talks to FOX Sports:
"Siver just broke my heart, but McGregor looked sharp. Conor's bringing excitement to the division. All of us need to thank him. I don't want to thank him for taking my title shot, but he's earned it. Aldo is a different animal. He has the speed and the length. But McGregor was able to get up quickly after taken down. Now we know about that."
McGregor dismantled Siver over the course of two rounds last Sunday night (Jan. 18, 2015) in Boston, Mass., and charged the stands after his emphatic win to confront "Junior" (see the video here). The champ was unfazed by the theatrics and promised the Irishman an unhappy ending in May.
As for Edgar, who would you like to see him fight next?
