Someone put Ron Stallings in a plastic bubble.
The middleweight "choir boy" steps up on short notice to fight Uriah Hall at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 59 mixed martial arts (MMA) event in "Beantown," replacing the injured Louis Taylor, who was replacing the injured Costas Philippou.
Hall (9-4) is in a lose-lose situation at this point, since he gets nowhere by defeating someone fighting on a week's notice, and tumbles down the proverbial ladder by losing to an unknown. By contrast, it's win-win for Stallings (12-6, 1 NC), who can beat a "name" -- or simply play the role of Pat Cummins and come back stronger in his next fight.
At least there is a fight, I suppose.
UFC Fight Night 59, which takes place this Sunday on FOX Sports 1 inside the TD Garden in Boston, Mass., will be headlined by a featherweight fracas pitting top 145-pound contender Conor McGregor opposite dangerous kickboxing veteran Dennis Siver, while Ben Henderson and Donald Cerrone lock horns in a spectacular lightweight co-main event.
