Dana White bans Wanderlei Silva from UFC Hall of Fame: 'The guy's been Pete Rose'd'

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight Wanderlei Silva retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) late last week and in the process, buried his former employer for running a combat sports sweatshop (watch the video here).

Not long after, Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) banned him from active competition.

For life.

That prompted yet another outburst from Silva, whose once great career has now been overshadowed by drug test follies and sour grapes, and the Brazilian has pretty much declared war on everyone, including NSAC. As a result, he's been Pete Rose'd.

UFC President Dana White talks to FOX Sports:

"Lorenzo was just saying this morning -- every fucking time you and I have ever seen Wanderlei Silva in our life he's over the top 'you guys are the best, you've built this sport, I don't know where any of us would be if it wasn't for you'. Nothing but positive things to say. Then now he's in this situation and he's trying to build a smoke screen. I don't blame him. I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing if I was in his position. It's part of this business. There's going to be no Hall of Fame. The guy's been Pete Rose'd. There's going to be no Hall of Fame offers."

Frank Shamrock can relate.

For those MMA fans unfamiliar with baseball's Pete Rose, the "Hit King" is the all-time leader in hits, won three World Series rings, three batting titles, one MVP award, two Gold Gloves, was the Rookie of the Year, and made 17 All-Star appearances at five different positions.

But he's banned from the MLB Hall of Fame for betting on games as a player/manager.

If and when Wandy ever finds his way into ZUFFA's hallowed halls remains to be seen (it's not like he beats children or assaults women), but for now, he appears to be ex-communicated from the sport.

See you in Curitiba!
