Gina Carano new movie deal -- co starring Robert De Niro and 'Batista' -- likely shelves Ronda Rousey UFC fight

No disrespect to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight titleholder Ronda Rousey (and this request), but when you have a chance to work the big screen opposite an Academy Award-winning actor like Robert De Niro, you take it.

That seems to be the plan for ex-Strikeforce attraction Gina Carano, according to MMA Fighting., who split for Hollywood back in late 2009.

"Conviction" -- who will also rub shoulders with Dave Bautista ('Batista' to WWE fans) -- is booked to chew the scenery in "Bus 657" this October, followed by a second project in December. That would leave little-to-no time to train for a "Rowdy" fight and I can't imagine a cut to 135 pounds while stuck on set.

No worries.

Rousey still has a long list of viable contenders to choose from. While it doesn't sound like UFC President Dana White is in any big hurry to pair her off with Bethe Correia, there is the winner of this weekend's showdown between Cat Zingano and Amanda Nunes, as well as Holly Holm (possibly) in 2015.

Point being, the champ has plenty of things to keep her busy. So too, does Carano.

Maybe next year?
