Last chance!
Embattled Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight Alistair Overeem is getting another shot to pull his Octagon career off life support, when he takes on fellow struggling heavyweight Stefan Struve at the UFC on FOX 13 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Dec. 13, 2014 inside U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
UFC announced the super-sized pairing late last night.
Overeem (37-14) is just 2-3 since joining the ZUFFA roster in 2011 and aside from a failed drug test in early 2012, "The Reem" has been knocked out in all three losses. That includes an upset defeat at the hands of Ben Rothwell earlier this month on FOX Sports 1.
With a $200k price tag -- per fight -- this could be his last hurrah.
The same could be said for Struve (25-6), who hasn't competed since Mark Hunt shattered his jaw in 2013. To be fair, "Skyscraper" is 4-1 over his last five with four impressive finishes, but a heart condition nearly ended his career and once he found his way back to the cage, he up and passed out right before the fight.
Time to erase that memory by mixing it up with Overeem, or perhaps find a new line of work.
