155 lbs.: Luis Palomino vs. Lewis Gonzalez
Round 1: Palomino in red, Gonzalez in black and Dean is the ref. Palomino with a hard low kick and stuffs Gonzalez's first takedown attempt. Gonzalez with a nice hook. Palomino pushing forward with a flurry. Mostly a feeling out round, as nothing major has landed for either man almost three minutes in. That said, a huge leg kick from Palomino knocks Lewis down. Gonzalez with a telegraphed shot that is stuffed. Left hook from Luis lands and cuts Gonzalez. He's surging forward, punching and landing. Gonzo is fighting back and gets a takedown briefly, but Palomino scrambles up before anything can happen. Palomino gets in a shot that stumbles Gonzalez because he was coming forward. Another right leg kick from Luis and Palomino saw that Gonzalez comes forward after that kick and he bashes a high kick that lands on Gonzo's temple. He's clean out cold, and you see on the replay that the knee landed flush.
RESULTS: Luis Palomino defeats Lewis Gonzalez via knockout (head kick) at 3:42 of round 1

205 lbs.: Ronny Markes vs. Cully Butterfield
Round 1: Butterfield in red, Markes in black. We've got Maz for a ref again. Markes with an immediate hard outside leg kick. Cully has his hands down low. Markes with the takedown and immediately tries to take the back, but Butterfield shucks off the hooks and is standing. Markes has a bodylock still and picks up Butterfield. Down goes Cully and Markes is in half guard. Full. Quarter. Half. Markes looking for the kimura, tries to step over into mount and Butterfield escapes standing. Not for long, as Markes immediately grabs him and gets him back down. Markes has the back now exactly halfway through the round. Butterfield rolls face down for a bit and Markes tries the neck crank, but Butterfield is out of it. Possible arm triangle here, but Cully rolls and now he's on top with a few seconds to pound on Markes. He's landing a bunch of rights to try and get some of the damage back.
10-9 Markes.
Round 2: Markes with a right. 1-2 from Markes. Butterfield wades through them and clinches. Over/under as Cully works on a single. Markes reverses and he's trying for the takedown. He gets it and has the back again. Butterfield no-selling the back control of Markes, who's not doing much. Butterfield rolls and is now into full guard. This is where Cully wants to be, halfway through the second round. Cully postures up and Markes lands an upkick that prompts Butterfield to dive back into full guard. Couple of rights gets in. These are just arm punches from Cully. Markes trying for a triangle and an armbar, but Cully defends. Markes uses it to sweep and again has back control. Markes is finally saying to hell with the Jiu Jitsu and remembers that ground and pound exists in this sport. That was a near stoppage at the end there.
10-9 Markes
Round 3: Neither man throwing much to start here. Butterfield catches a kick and swings huge. It misses, but Cully holds on and gets Markes down. He is in side control briefly and gets in some large right hands. Markes stands with Cully wrapped around on his body. Markes defends the attempts and he's got the bodylock now. Butterfield defends. Brief takedown that Cully rolls out of. Markes still on him like glue and drags him down. Again, back control. Again Butterfield reverses. One minute to go. Butterfield trying to get through the waves of upkicks.
10-9 Butterfield
RESULTS: Rony Markes def. Cully Butterfield via decision (unanimous) 29-28 x3

185 lbs.: Elvis Mutapcic vs. Kelvin Tiller
Round 1: Mutapcic in the black and white (he's also white) and Tiller is a black man in the black spandex. Herb Dean as the third man in the cage. Tiller with a nice trip takedown and is in half guard. Left from Tiller. Mutapcic rolls to his feet and Tiller is swimming into a guillotine. Mutapcic escapes, Tiller tries an anaconda choke, but Elvis gets out of that, too. Tiller bonks the blue suede shoes of Mutapcic and Dean steps in. Elvis tries an uppercut that misses. Tiller with a headkick and pushes Mutapcic to the cage. Elvis reverses him and body locks him down. Elvis steps over into a really low mount. Elvis trying to creep up, but abandons it for side control. Elvis gets a crucifix position and gets in a couple elbows. Tiller escapes. He postures up and stands above Elvis. He sweeps a leg aside and comes down with a hammerfist. Tiller backs up and off, allowing Mutapcic to stand. Spinning wheel kick from Tiller misses and he falls down. Mutapcic on stop and passes as the horn sounds.
10-9 Mutapcic in a close round.
Round 2: Elvis powers forward, but Tiller circles off the cage. Mutapcic clinches again and tries a takedown that Tiller fends off. Right from Elvis, left from Tiller. There's a right from Kelvin as well. Elvis tries an outside trip, but Tiller fends it off. Elvis still trying on the trip and gets it. Tiller seems to lay there for a moment, allowing Mutapcic to climb on top. Tiller tries to explode, but Mutapcic maintains his base. Half guard. Slow action here. Couple of lefts from Elvis. Herb takes a look. Elvis starts to throw some punches and elbows to maintain the position. Full guard. Well that was anti-climactic.
10-9 Mutapcic
Round 3: Tiller opens with a cartwheel kick that misses. Mutapcic closes and gets the single-leg takedown. Closed full guard. Elvis on top with some elbows. Tiller throws up the legs for a triangle that Elvis defends, but Tiller gets in a strong elbow that cuts the Iowan. A bit of a break and a short scramble, but Elvis is in side control. Elvis tries for the same crucifix move earlier, and Tiller uses the same escape to get out of it. Elvis in half guard still. Full guard. Triangle attempt again. Well, that's that.
10-9 Mutapcic.
RESULTS: Elvis Mutapcic def. Kelvin Tiller via decision (unanimous) 30-27 x2, 29-28

135 lbs.: Alexis Vila vs. Brandon Hempleman
Round 1: BTW, if you aren't peaking in on Metamoris right now, Josh Barnett is grappling in wrestling shoes and a tight, tight speedo. Pleasant dreams. Hemp in the white, Vila in in fluorescent green. Kim Winslow draws the boos from the crowd. Hemp pressing forward with jabs. Vila has a single for a minute, but is trying to punch off it, rather than takedown. Right hand from Vila and a left gets in clean. Hemp bites down on his mouthpiece and throws back. They trade lefts. Quick left hook from Vila. Hemp with the jab. Leg kick chops the outside of Hemp's leg. Hemp gets an inside one in. Hard low kick from the Cuban lands clean. And so does the ex-soldier. Vila with another. Vila hits a clean right, but Hemp's jaw is cast iron at this point. Vila with a nice inside leg kick and an outside one. Hemp misses a head kick near the buzzer.
10-9 Vila
Round 2: Why, there's Renzo Gracie joining the booth. Bas Ruten and Renzo talking back and forth should be glorious. Nice right from Hemp. Vila with another powerful low kick, but Hemp is holding his own in that department. Big right from Vila is solid, but again, Hemp is a man with a jaw of [insert really hard substance here]. Hemp with a straight right. Vila with a right to the body and Hemp counters with a left to the head. Vila with another power left and a headkick. Hempleman hits a solid right. Overhand from Vila lands, but he hit him with the wrist, not the fist. Vila with a jab. Vila shoots from way outside, but Hemp sees it and gets out of the way.
10-9 Vila
Round 3: Glancing in on the grappling, I'm sad to see that Lister and Barnett are apparently fighting to a slow-paced draw. Hemp still showing off that his chin can not be cracked. He's got a good jab, too. Vila is only trying to shoot from way outside, and thus not able to get in. Triple jab from the American. Low kick goes too far low on the cup of Vila. Oh, my. Barnett got the tapout with about 11 seconds left in the bout. Back to the punchkicking we're watching here, Vila continues slinging power and Hemp is throwing solid technique as well. Both guys aren't doing much defensively at this point, and it's a constant slap, pow, slap of glove on body. Both Bas and Renzo feel that Vila won both rounds and Hemp needs to get the finish to get the win. Vila has more hooks than a bass competition! Thank you, Mike Schiavello would be proud. Vila with a good right. Hemp is getting in some of his own, too. Low ankle pick attempt from Vila fails. Hell of a round.
10-9 Hempleman, but it's close.
RESULTS: Brandon Hempleman defeats Alexis Vila via decision (unanimous) 30-27 x2, 29-28

135 lbs.: Bryson Hansen vs. Matt Sayles
Round 1: We open with Steve Mazzagatti refereeing Hansen, in the black spandex, against Sayles in the black shorts. Hansen backing up Sayles into the fence where they struggle for a bit before Sayles reverses. Hansen clips him with a right and drops Sayles. Hansen swarming with about 20 lefts, but Maz is letting it go, as Sayles is working to his feet. Sayles is still in it and eventually shrugs him out of the dominant position up against the fence. Sayles gets in a shot, but Hansen lands another solid hook. Hansen ducks under and suplex's Sayles down. He has the back, but can't control Sayles, who crabs up to all fours and gets Hansen up to the fence where he's able to break up the hold. Hansen with a nice left. Sayle's only offense that lands solid is a nice leg kick - otherwise nothing else in the round from either man bingos the other.
10-9 Hansen
Round 2: Head kick partially gets through for Sayles. Right from Sayles hits the jaw. Hansen checks a leg kick and Sayles stops throwing that inside one. Sayles the much more active fighter here as Hansen is looking to counterpunch. Hansen gets in two lefts and is now fishing in on a single. Sayles fights it off, pumps the jab and throws a nice right. Straight right from Sayles lands, but a big hook whiffs. Hansen stalking a bit, but Sayles comes out swinging. They clinch and knee each other before they break off. Hansen catches a low kick and swings an overhand into a takedown, but Sayles is able to get back up quickly. Sayles with a nice right to the ribs. Sayles with the confidence here, but it doesn't seem that he's got a lot on his strikes.
10-9 Sayles
Round 3: Hansen immediately clinches. Sayles gets him with Hansen's back to the fence and gets in a nice right elbow. Nice front kick right to Hansen's jaw that he just chews on and spits out. Left from Hansen. Hansen dives in on a takedown that backs Sayles into the cage, but Sayles reverses it. Nothing from either gentleman is wobbling either man, but Sayles is landing with volume, while mostly avoiding the big power punches from Hansen. Right to the body from Sayles and a left from Hansen to the head in return. Hansen with a big scoop slam right at the knocker, but Sayles clambers back to his feet in just a couple seconds.
10-9 Sayles.
RESULTS: Matt Sayles defeats Bryson Hansen via decision (unanimous) 29-28 x3
