The headlining bout at tonight's (Sat., Aug. 23, 2014) UFC Fight Night 49: "Henderson vs. Dos Anjos" event at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, featured former Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson battling late injury replacement Rafael dos Anjos.
Henderson, 9-1 in his last 10 outings, was hoping to push his streak of wins to three on his way back up the ladder and another crack at the 155-pound crown.
Nope.
Dos Anjos was super aggressive throughout the opening round, firing away with strikes from all angles. He found big success with a flying knee that buckled "Bendo" and followed that up with a hard left hand that took Henderson's legs out from under him.
Seeing this, the referee ran in to call a halt to the action.
Immediately, Henderson disputed the decision.
The crowd did the same. It's a call that is certainly up for debate, as these calls always are, but Henderson's legs were gone and he was, at the very least, knocked out in a flash. His waking up in the process of the stoppage creates a bad look, but if safety truly comes first perhaps this was the right call.
What do you think, Maniacs?
